Nevada County Realty Is Collecting Food for the Food Bank of Nevada County

In 2008 the United Nations announced that one billion people would go hungry across the globe in 2009. This is the first time in human history that the numbers of hungry people in the world have reached such a shocking landmark.

While hearing that people all over the world are going hungry this year may seem pretty far away as we sit down to dinner in Nevada County, the truth is that compared to one year ago  The Food Bank of Nevada County has had a 61% increase in clients that it is providing food to. Emergency food requests have doubled; emergency food is now dispensed at four local churches; the amount of daily nutritious snacks provided to school children is up by 33% and twice as many eligible students are still being denied; nutritious summertime lunches for hungry youngsters went up by 50% this past summer and many eligible children were excluded due to lack of resources.

Hunger is on the rise in Nevada County, but our local food bank is striving to meet the challenges and will continue to make strive to provide services and food despite state budget cuts thanks to the continued support of our community.

We live in an area truly blessed by nature’s beauty and quality of life. No one in our community should go hungry!
